OCC Black Dahlia Nail Polish

occ-blackdahlia1

It doesn’t feel like fall will be here soon, but I figured painting my nails dark burgundy couldn’t hurt. It’ll help me forget that I live in Texas and it’s totally normal to have it still reaching 100 degrees in September.

Now, I love the color of this, but I will admit that the formula isn’t the greatest which is disappointing given that OCC is a little higher end. By the second day I had one or two chips, and it was easy enough to touch them up and reapply a top coat, but normally I don’t have to do that until day four or five. I needed two coats for it to be totally opaque, but that’s pretty standard. Overall it has average performance and needs a tough topcoat or regular touch-ups.

These pictures are from day four after touching up the tips, so they’re a little grown out. Thanks Biotin for making my nails grow weirdly fast. I feel like I apologize for my dry cuticles in every nail post, and I’m going to do it again. I’ve been using Essie’s Apricot Cuticle Oil and they look good after, but I haven’t been diligent about using it. One day I’ll have soft, barely there cuticles.

Black Dahlia OCC Lip Tar Swatch & Review

blackdahlialip4OCC Lip Tar in Black Dahlia // Silk Blouse – Everlane

This was part of a set with the lip tar and the matching nail polish (an early birthday gift from my sweet Becca), and I love it. These lip tars aren’t everyone’s favorite because they aren’t the most convenient form of lip color. Carrying the little brush and tube in your purse isn’t as easy as just touching up with a swipe of lipstick. Luckily the staying power of this lipcolor makes it easy to forgo touch-ups.

I’ve worn this to work without bringing it with me and by the end of the day I had a nice, even (albeit lighter) stain. It started as this dark berry color and finished as a reddish pink. After drinking coffee, eating breakfast, and having lunch, I’d say that is pretty impressive.

I’d recommend exfoliating and priming lips beforehand because if you have dry patches sometimes the darker pigments can settle or fade unevenly, but it wasn’t hugely noticable. If you can’t or don’t want to bring the little plastic case with the tube and lip brush, I think Revlon’s Black Cherry is close enough to use for touch-ups.

Bottom line: It’s everything I hoped for and I’m so happy it’s finally mine. Thanks again Becca! I’ll try to do a swatch and review of the matching nail polish soon.

Penelope Bra From L’agent by Agent Provocateur // Crystal Necklace // Trench Coat with Detachable Lining from Zara // Seed Stitch Box Cut Sweater From Everlane // OCC Black Dahlia Lip Tar // Milly Boot From Shoemint

Still getting our new place unpacked, so no new outfits or reviews just yet! BUT since it is starting to cool down, I can’t help but let my mind wander to the things I wouldn’t mind adding to my wardrobe and makeup bag. This comes at a strange time since almost anyone who’s recently moved realizes they probably have too much stuff. I know I had that revelation.

I’ve donated a lot of clothes and thrown out a lot of expired makeup as well as stuff that just didn’t suit me but I maybe bought on a whim. It feels so good, but I still have a lot of work to do. I’ll probably never be completely minimalist, but I definitely want to try and cut down and really think about what I’m buying. The things above are all items that I’ve been thinking about for months at least but haven’t purchased (and I’ll never get those boots cause they’re sold out – excuse me for crying a little bit while I type this).

Expect a few more inspiration-type posts while I find my new photograph friendly spaces in the new apartment. We have a beautiful courtyard area but I’m super shy about taking photos outside, so let’s see if I can work up the guts to stand around in public posing.
