Here is a mini tutorial and review of my cutie cute strawberry sponge curlers I got in about a month ago. All you’ll need are your curlers (I have nine for my fairly long hair) and damp hair. My hair was dry so I brought in my trusty spray bottle. Have you ever seen someone so happy to be taking photographs for a silly tutorial?
Gettin that hair damp. You don’t want it to be soaking wet, but don’t be shy. If you’re leaving the curlers in overnight, don’t spray your hair so much that it’s still wet in the morning.
I find it helps to section your hair off into equal parts. Since I have nine curlers I separate it three ways and then use three curlers per section.
Start rollin them up. I roll them toward me if that makes sense. I start off by wrapping the end of my hair around the middle part and then take it up as far as I can.
Once you have them all in, it’s a waiting/sleeping game. I was going out later on the night I made this tutorial, so I decided to leave them in for two to three hours. They really need to be in longer for maximum effect, but with hairspray that’s still enough time to get a decent curl. If you’re going to be running around while they’re setting, it might be a good idea to tie them up with a headscarf because mine have a tendency of slipping down. I also have very long fine hair, and these curlers are pretty hollowed out in the middle so they don’t hug onto the hair as well as the ones that look like straight up yo-yos.
When I take mine out, I mist them with a workable hairspray and brush them out a bit, and…
Voila! These didn’t last as long because I didn’t leave the curlers in as long, but if you leave them in overnight, they have great staying power. No heat either! It’s great if you’re trying to let your hair recover from coloring or other damage. My red hair from last summer and fall took a pretty big toll on my hair.
I recommend these. If you’ve got a lot of hair, I would probably suggest the ones that are more like yo-yos or macaroons because they can hold onto it more. At the same time, the strawberries are so cute that they’re hard to pass up. Either way, these sponge rollers are great in my book!
