Mandsome: Recommendations From My Mister

Last Christmas I started Mark on a year-long bout of Birchbox Man, including the big beta box they released around the holidays last year. We’re both taking a break from Birchbox as of the end of this month, but I really wanted him to go back and review the top five products he received.

This is the face of a man you can trust.

I figure this is also a good chance for anyone looking for products recommendations for the men in their life! I know some guys are weird about using anything other than soap, water, and Barbasol because they worry that using product is too feminine. That talk is ridiculous. No worries about looking, smelling, and feeling handsome. Just leave one of these in his bathroom and they’ll use it because it’s there, but then they’ll be hooked because these are awesome.

Mark’s Top Five (In His Own Words):    kerastaseshampooKérastase Bain Capital Force Densifying Shampoo

If I remember correctly this belonged to the first box of Birchbox Men items I received. It is a thickening shampoo geared towards men who are experiencing hair loss. Since my hair is thin (luckily not thinning), I was excited to give this product a try. While the thickening qualities were not particulary memorable, the product had a very unique, masculine scent to it that made it really stand out. The fragrance was noticeable well after washing my hair. Would purchase at least one more time to see if it is worth the cost.

TORO Shave Oil

My favorite product from Birchbox. I have tried many different gels, lotions, etc, and this one is the best. A couple of squirts of this stuff and you are all set for a clean shave. It is a slippery sort of oil that smells surprisingly like Vicks Vapo Rub. The skin reacts very well to whatever active ingredients are inside, giving a very cool, refreshing feel. Most importantly it is stellar at preventing irritation; there is no razor burn or bumps to be had when using this. Would buy again.

Jack Black Double-Duty Face Moisturizer

A good combination of moisturizer and sunblock; sun protection is just as critical for preventing wrinkles. Creamy and opaque white, it has all the qualities of sunblock but without the smell. Easy to apply daily. Would buy again.

This was my favorite cologne I have received. It is a unique scent, reminding me almost of caramel mixed with coffee. It is very potent, lasting throughout the day without reapplying. While the product is supposed to be unisex, I would say it is more masculine than feminine. Would love to wear this all the time if I could afford it.

Kiehl’s Ultimate Man Body Scrub Soap

While I like the rough texture, this soap may not be for everyone. The oat bran integrated into this soap is borderline painful to rub on the skin, but at the same time it’s satisfying knowing that you’re a little bit cleaner having gone through with it. The scent is clean and neutral. Normal soap doesn’t seem as effective once you get used to this stuff. Would buy again.
