I love Halloween. It’s right up there with Christmas and New Year’s with my favorite holidays. I hope I never get the inkling that I’m too old to dress up because the costumes are what I look forward to most. That’s probably because it’s a great excuse to wear clothes and make-up you could never get away with otherwise.
Now I have a lot of costumes I’ve made from years previous, and some in particular I’ve spent way too much time and effort on to wear only once or twice. That’s why this year I’m redoing two of my favorites, and I thought I’d post my inspiration for both of them.
At the risk of sounding silly, I made a costume really similar to this before I saw Florence and the Machine’s video for “Drumming Song”, but after I did see it, all I wanted to do was revamp it, so this year I’m making an awesome mask from wire and lace (similar to this one but not exactly), and I’m adding more drapey bits to my bat wing cape. This is for party #1.
This is the big one. Beyonce’s marching jacket from Lady Gaga’s “Telephone” video. I spent almost three weeks sewing a blue jacket from scratch and bedazzling the crap out of it and a pair of heels. For spending so much time, I did a bad job of getting photos. The best one I got is actually from my friend’s cell phone (I found it on my computer Jay!)
I’m gonna work on making my shorts better for this year because they were not torn up enough to match Bey’s.
Sorry for the lack of proper posts lately! I’ve been under the weather and so has my mister, so I haven’t done a good job of getting photos, but I’m off today and tomorrow, so I’m gonna try to photograph a bunch of posts at once. Wish me luck!
