Summer Showers

1. Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Wild Ginger Shampoo and Conditioner // 2. Burt’s Bees Sugar Scrub in Cranberry & Pomegranate or Mango & Orange // 3. Philosophy Mangos and Cream Shower Gel

I know you’re probably tired of hearing about how hot it is here in Texas, especially since it looks like it’s pretty hot all over the states (welcome to my world every summer, blegh!), but there are a few things that help me feel fresh and clean at least temporarily. There are some days at work where I’m outside constantly, and by quittin’ time I am sweaty EVERYWHERE, so when I get home, I like to take a luke-warm shower, cause I can feel the water just pulling the heat out of my skin and hair when the water’s cool.

The first step is the Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Wild Ginger Shampoo and Conditioner. It’s amazing! It’s a little bit more than I usually spend on shampoo, but it’s the first one in a long time that actually makes a difference on my hair. It’s sulfate free but still lathers good, and the scent is really refreshing. I’ve heard it’s hit or miss with some people, but I love the smell of ginger. The conditioner leaves my hair soft and tangle free. It says on the bottle to apply it from root to tip, but my hair gets oily pretty fast, so I usually skip the roots and concentrate from the ears down.

Burt’s Bees Sugar Scrubs light up my life. Now my skin is sensitive, so I just concentrate it on my shoulders, chest and legs, but both varieties have tons of moisturizing oils that keep it from feeling too harsh. No one like spotty shoulders from sweat in the summertime, so this keeps my pores clean and my skin smooth. I like the smell of the cranberry one better, but they were out at the store so I picked up the mango and orange. It doesn’t have as strong a scent as I thought orange would, but it feels gentler than the pomegranate, so if you’re weary of sugar scrubs because of delicate skin, I’d opt for that one.

That brings us to my beloved Mangos and Cream Philosophy shower gel. There was a time when my dermatologist said my skin was too dry and sensitive to handle scented body washes. I was crushed. I was sentenced to unscented Dove bar soap for a long time (no hate for Dove, it did it’s job when I needed it), and then I got Philosophy’s Birthday Cake Shower Gel as a Sephora birthday bonus, and my skin always felt soft afterwards instead of the dry, tight feeling I used to get from other body washes. When I went to pick up a full size, I honestly didn’t know where to begin because they have SO MANY scents to choose from. I sort of picked Mangos and Cream at random. I’ll never go back. It smells like heaven and pie and fruit and it’s just… ugh. It isn’t overwhelming but it’s GOOD. I’m sure their other scents are on par, but why ruin a good thing?

When I get out of the shower I like to just lay on my bed and think about how NOT sweaty I am right in that moment, because there’s always gonna be some reason to go outside and get hot and grimy again, but for just a second I get to enjoy feeling fresh and clean.

I hope everyone’s staying cool!
